Streamgrab: Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-03
What the extension does
It watches the network requests your browser makes while you browse, to notice video files, HLS playlists and DASH manifests. It reads the address, content type and size of those responses. When you press Download, it fetches the video from the server that hosts it and saves the file to your download folder.
What happens to your videos and pages
The addresses of the pages you visit and of the videos you find stay on your computer. Streamgrab has no analytics, no advertising and no account. It does not read the content of the pages you visit, and it does not block or change any request.
Data stored on your computer
- Your settings, such as the filename template and the default quality.
- The list of videos found on each open tab. It is removed when the tab navigates or closes.
- The list of downloads of this session.
- Your daily usage counter, counts of the files and streams you saved (used to name what you did in the trial notice), and the dates of the free trial.
- Your Pro licence key and pass end date, if you activate Pro.
This data lives in your browser's extension storage. Uninstalling the extension deletes it. A video you saved is a normal file in your download folder and is not deleted with the extension.
Data that leaves your computer
Two things, and each only when you ask for it.
- Your licence key, when you activate Pro and at most once a day after that. The key goes to our licence server at gigscope-api.exochard.workers.dev, which checks it with Payhip (the seller of record for Pro passes). Nothing else is sent with it.
- A suggestion, only when you press Send in the suggestion form. The extension sends the text you typed, whether you marked it as an idea or a problem, the extension version and, only if you typed one, your email address, so we can reply. Nothing is sent before you press Send. In Firefox, the browser asks for your permission to send them first, and nothing is sent if you decline.
When you press Download, Streamgrab also fetches the video, playlist or segments from the server that serves them, as your browser would when playing the video. Those requests go to that server only.
Access to websites
Streamgrab asks for access to all websites and for web requests, because a video can load from any site. It needs the response headers to tell which requests are video, and the same access to fetch playlists and segments from the servers that host them.
